Traffic Conditions Menu Options

Enhanced software supports an array of features on the 511 phone system to provide traffic information.

The traffic map provides current incidents and average speeds when significantly slower than normal. It also provides road closure information from CHP, Caltrans, and other transportation agencies. To select a route, you can simply press or say, “8” instead of “Interstate 8.” To be more specific, you can select a direction after selecting the highway. To hear about the next incident, press pound (#). To return to the main menu, press or say “0.”

From the traffic conditions menu, say the name of a highway, city, or a subregion for information about traffic conditions in that area.

Highway choices include: Highway 6, Interstates 5, 8, 15, and 805, and State Routes 52, 54, 56, 67, 75, 76, 78, 79, 94, 115, 125, 163, 188, 282, and 905. To select a highway, say the number or enter the number on your phone, followed by pound (#).

City choices include: Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Coronado, Del Mar, El Cajon, Encinitas, Escondido, Imperial Beach, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, National City, Oceanside, Poway, San Diego, San Marcos, Santee, Solana Beach, and Vista. Communities such as Alpine, Cardiff by the Sea, Fallbrook, Julian, Lakeside, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Peñasquitos, San Ysidro, and many others are included.

Subregions include: North County, North San Diego, Central San Diego, South County, and East County.
